Pizzas of the USA

Categories : Foods And Culinary

Pizza is the go-to takeout order for many Americans when they are too tired or busy to cook, or if they just want to treat themselves. With all the different styles, crusts, toppings, and sauces to choose from, it’s hard to get bored of this delicious meal.

But why is pizza so different depending on where you go? Different regions tend to put their own unique spin on popular food items to make them their own, and pizza is certainly one exception. There are many different styles to choose from when ordering from the best pizza places Bridgeport CT.

Chicago Style

Also called a deep-dish pizza, Chicago-style pizzas are baked in a deep round pan. The pan depth means they take longer in the oven, which is why the cheese is on the bottom as opposed to the top like most other pizzas. This prevents the cheese from burning. The toppings go on top of the cheese, and the sauce is the top layer.

New York Style

This is the style you probably picture when you think of pizza.  It’s the style that is most closely rooted in its Neopolitan origins of all the American pizza styles. The crust is thin and crispy but still foldable.  It is typically topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese with the topping on top.

Neopolitan

Neopolitan pizza is the ancestor of the others on this list. This is the style that originated in Naples, Italy, and was brought over by immigrants in the early 1900s. This pizza is made with a simple, hand-tossed dough, crushed raw tomatoes (not tomato sauce), fresh mozzarella slices, fresh basil leaves, and olive oil. Extra toppings are not authentic to the Neopolitan pizza.

Whether it’s thick or thin crust, plain cheese, or loaded with toppings, pizza is almost always a crowd-pleaser when you don’t know where to go for dinner.
